Sardinia & Sicily

Today I am reflecting back to where it all started and where I gather inspiration, Italy!! Tina and I went back again in 2018. We visited some of the amazing works of Art in Rome and Positano. We went to Sicily where my family is from and Sardinia where Tina's family is from. We spent our days viewing the beautiful architecture, visiting stone quarries, hanging at the beach and of course eating the best Italian food Ever!!

OK, sorry but here's my bio, lol! I started into this masonry trade when I was around 12 years old. I worked as a 'Hod-carrier' every summer vacation from school with my father, brother, uncles and cousins. I joined the Masons Union as an 'Apprentice' the day after High School graduation and later became a 'Journeyman', eventually running work as a 'Foreman' for my Uncles. Now there were plenty of times I would take time off to guide whitewater rafting trips, ski-bum or play music around San Diego and Colorado but when I was 32 years old I got my own contractors license. This June 14th will mark my 30 year anniversary with that license, and I'm not done yet!!

I'm proud to have added to the DeMaria Legacy. Luckily for me I had Tina by my side the whole time. She runs the office, I run the field. Whether it was the 3 man crew in the beginning or the 30 man crew we ran up until 2009, Tina takes care of all the office affairs. That's no easy task considering she worked for the Dept. of Defense, we had 2 small children, she was running the books for our Bar business, Manny's Place, and I was playing music at night and on the weekends throughout central California. -JD
